Hailing the Ferry came in with cupping, a brittle canvas, and a stretcher bar that was tight which pushed the work against the frame, where it rubbed and caused paint loss. Re-lining added strength to the foundation for the paint film and helped with the cupping. Surface cleaning brought out the natural colors and in-painting concealed the lost areas. We also modified the original stretcher bar so it raised the picture enough to be free from the new, custom frame made in the Dutch style with Carapsian Elm veneer and antique gold front with a black back panel.
