T.J. Koch Three People In Winter Village

Landscape by T.J. Koch (1881 – 1959) had suffered greatly from water damage, compromising most of the paint film. A substantial amount of in-fill and in-paint was needed. We are very happy with the results.

Theophilus John Koch was born on August 24, 1881 in Dusseldorf, Germany. At an early age, his family emigrated to the United States. He would go on to become a self-taught plein-air landscape artist, studying with prominent artists of the Hoosier Salon: Adolph Schulz, Will Vawter and T.C. Steele, as well as German artist Thomas Von Dreger who would encourage Koch to pursue a career as a landscape artist.

  1. Love this painting. Do you know where the painting ended up? TJ Koch was a member of my family and I’m looking for paintings of his. Thank you

    • I have Koch landscape that I have had rolled up for at least 50 years. It was not in good paint condition when I originally purchased it at an estate sale. If you like, I could try to photograph it for you. — Jim Patrick, St. Petersburg, Florida
