Post Civil War Photograph

Substantial damage has greatly compromised this Post Civil War photograph, which happens to be the client’s only known photograph for this ancestor. Mold, water, and an oily substance spattered across the front are just a few of the problems. On the reverse side, a rudimentary backing had been adhered to help brace the falling-apart structure of the photograph; but, unfortunately, the materials used, and the skill with which they were applied, were not in-line with a quality restoration.

Currently, the photograph has been removed from the backing, and is in the process of reconstruction. Work forthcoming will include de-acidification, replacement of loss areas, and in-coloring. We are very confident the end result will be quite stunning, as well as structurally sound, which will allow it to be a cherished heirloom for many years to come.

Stay tuned for more…
