Leon Lundmark Shoreline Restored

This painting by Leon Lundmark (1875-1942) came in with extreme contamination. Yellowed varnish had muted the vibrant colors of the original, and darkened some areas, and even hid the artist’s signature; a discovery that surprised even us when we uncovered it during the restoration. In the upper-left corner, there was also a very noticeable tear. Similarities to other Lundmark paintings leads us to believe that this work, circa 1920, could be part of a Lake Superior series.
